Ravelry describes itself as having nearly half a million patterns available for download. Its help says purchased patterns can be added to a buyer's library and stay available after purchase, and a designer can publish an update notice to buyers. Ravelry says that if you sell more than $30 a month in patterns, it charges a small fee on the amount sold, paid monthly through PayPal.
The limit is the fee schedule: it sits behind Ravelry's sign-in, so this page gives only the $30 a month threshold. Ravelry also says patterns cannot be bought or sold in countries where PayPal does not operate.
Payhip: a crochet pattern store of your own
Payhip's pattern pages name PDF and ZIP files, and you do not need a website of your own: Payhip gives you a dedicated store. A variant is one option of a single product with its own name, price and assigned files, so versions of one pattern can share a product. Once you replace a file, earlier buyers get the updated version through their original download link.
Payhip's FAQ says you can sell on Payhip while selling on other platforms. Crochet designers can open a Payhip store on the Free Forever plan with no card, pay 5% a sale and keep their Ravelry shop.
A Payhip purchase gives the buyer a download page, not a Ravelry library entry, so Ravelry stays the pick for buyers who keep patterns there. Payhip's Marketplace lists a product only after a review, and Payhip gives no figure for how many shoppers it reaches. See Payhip vs Ravelry.
Etsy and Ko-fi
Etsy charges $0.20 a listing and 6.5% of the order, and its digital listings take up to five files of 20MB each. Processing is extra: 3% plus $0.25 with a US bank account.
Ko-fi's shop has no listing fees and charges a 5% service fee on Standard, with normal card processing fees on top; sales land in your own PayPal or Stripe account. Its help gives 2GB per item for Free users and 5GB for Standard users, but Ko-fi words the tiers differently across pages, so no limit is stated for a new creator. A buyer who is not logged in is prompted to create a Ko-fi account to download.
Where to sell crochet patterns for free
Payhip Free Forever and Ko-fi Standard have no monthly price, and both keep 5% of each sale. Etsy charges $0.20 a listing and a one-time shop fee from the start. Ravelry's fee starts only once pattern sales pass $30 a month. Is Payhip free covers what the free plan leaves you to pay, and where to sell digital patterns widens the list beyond crochet.
