Quick answerPayhip suits a pattern seller leaving Gumroad's 10% plus $0.50 for a free plan at 5% a sale. Lemon Squeezy suits one who wants a merchant of record; Sellfy one who wants no transaction fee up to $10k in yearly sales.

Gumroad alternatives at a glance

The Gumroad alternatives that suit a pattern seller are Payhip, Lemon Squeezy, Ko-fi, Sellfy, Stan Store and Beacons. Gumroad has no monthly fee and keeps 10% plus $0.50 of each direct sale, or 30% when a new customer finds you through Discover, its own marketplace. Gumroad's help center says the 10% plus $0.50 does not include card processing or PayPal fees.

Gumroad also acts as merchant of record, which means it collects and remits tax on each sale; its pricing page says it handles all your tax obligations. Payhip's Free Forever plan is $0 a month plus a 5% Payhip transaction fee, the share Payhip takes from each sale, as read on 6 October 2026. Prices below are monthly billing unless a cell says otherwise.

Payhip: a free plan and variants for pattern files

Payhip says every plan has the same features, so Free Forever carries variants and coupons; the plans differ only in the Payhip fee: 2% on Plus at $29 a month, none on Pro at $99 a month. Payhip pricing lists all three, and PayPal or Stripe charge their own rates on every plan.

A variant is one option of a single product with its own name, price, description and assigned files. Gumroad's version is close: a name, a description and an extra amount over the base price, with content set per version. Print-at-home, copy-shop and projector files can each become one Payhip variant, with that set's files assigned to it.

Payhip says that once you replace a file, earlier buyers get the updated version through their original download link. Moving a Gumroad catalog to Payhip can start on the Free Forever plan, which Payhip's pricing page says needs no credit card, with Payhip's 5% cut per sale. Payhip vs Gumroad compares fees, tax and file handling.

Lemon Squeezy and Ko-fi Standard: no monthly charge

Lemon Squeezy takes 5% plus 50 cents a sale and says there are no monthly charges for ecommerce features. It acts as your merchant of record and pays out twice a month. Its docs say the fee covers card transaction fees, while noting that an additional fee can apply to some payments.

Ko-fi Standard takes a 5% service fee on all payment types, with normal processor fees on top, and sales land in your own PayPal or Stripe account. Gold is $12 a month for a 0% fee, though Ko-fi's Gold page is headed "You no longer need Ko-fi Gold". Payhip's 5% and Gumroad's 10% plus $0.50 both leave card processing outside the fee, so those two compare directly; Lemon Squeezy's includes it.

Sellfy and Stan Store: a monthly price and no transaction fee under Sellfy's sales cap

Sellfy Starter is $29 a month, or $22 a month on yearly billing, and covers up to $10k in sales a year. Sellfy says it charges no transaction fee, but it may start charging a 2% overage fee on revenue above a plan's limit. Its help describes a Variants section on products and names no plan for it.

Stan Store's Creator plan is $29 a month, or $300 a year, per Stan's help center, the same $29 monthly figure as Sellfy Starter. Stan says it earns 0% from transactions and charges a flat subscription, with PayPal and Stripe charging their own processing fees. Stan's help center says it offers no free plan; stan.store shows a 14-day trial.

Beacons: a free plan with a 9% cut

Beacons Free is $0 a month, which Beacons calls free forever, and lets you sell unlimited digital products with a 9% seller fee. Creator is $10 a month at the same 9%; Creator Plus is $30 a month at 0%. It fits a seller who wants a free plan now and a 0% fee later, at a higher cut than Payhip's 5% while on Free.

When to stay on Gumroad

Stay on Gumroad when you want the platform to handle tax and no monthly fee, at 10% plus $0.50 a direct sale, above every cut in the table. Payhip's US sales tax help says Payhip handles US sales tax on a seller's behalf from July 1, 2026, and that a seller may still need to file a state return; Gumroad's page says it handles all tax obligations.

Pick Payhip when a free plan and a 5% cut beat 10% plus $0.50, Lemon Squeezy for a merchant of record at 5% plus 50 cents, and Sellfy for no transaction fee up to $10k in yearly sales. For more, see best platform to sell digital products.
